Mental Health

When we talk about being healthy or staying fit, most of us have "weight loss" or "physical appearance" in mind. "Mental Health" is the most rarely used term in our day to day lives. Be it our schools, television, media... we talk about being physically fit, but why not mentally as well?  Why is being mentally at peace so underrated?

There are different types of mental health issues; depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress, Bipolar disorder, panic attacks, schizophrenia, obsessive compulsive disorder to name a few. Mental Illness directly affects mood, behavior and thinking.

The biggest problem is that people suffering from mental illness are not aware about it. Symptoms can be as generic as feeling sad or down, excessive fears or worries, or extreme feelings of guilt, extreme mood changes of highs and lows, withdrawal from friends and activities, problem sleeping.

Also, even if they are aware about it, they hesitate to visit a psychiatrist assuming visiting a psychiatrist means you are weak, flawed or crazy. It's the fear of being labelled. They may also be skeptical about what details about the past will the psychiatrist ask, should go through endless sessions, psychiatrist may just hand out pills and so on....

What do we do when we have mental health issues? Reach out, express, consult a psychiatrist, realize how important it is to be mentally fit and make efforts to overcome your health issues. Make sure you connect with people around as it can be isolating in that phase. Meditation has also proved to be helpful. Do what you like, and accept yourself without self-hate.

After all it's only you who can gain control of the rush of thoughts going on in your head. Easier said than done...It’s all in your head!

Book review- Second Chance - Dr. Sandeep Jatwa

About the Author:
Dr. Sandeep Jatwa! A doctor by profession, born in the Holy city of Ujjain, grew up in Dewas, Madhya pradesh, India.

This is his second book, and believe me it feels like he has written a lot more than that!
Second  chance is  a story of an egotistical business man, by the  name Shekhar Kapoor who did not do anything upright in his life. Basically he is a hated by most. He contrives with a person and acquires his competitor brand.

Shekhar receives emails, letters, and phone calls which are signed the City of Justice. These are sent as warnings, reminding Shekhar of the misconducts of him. Eventually, Shekhar the protagonist in this story dies. But there is a twist, he gets a second chance!

He receives his second chance and comes back to earth. What happens thereafter, for that  grab the book and know it yourself!!The books highlight is that we continue to do wrong deeds for a long time, the inner voice gives a  wake-up call.

A gem of a line from the book which is very inspiring:
“No money can give you contentment and happiness. Do what your heart wants and what you will get would be priceless”

The story is very appealing. It kept me hooked and I was always keen to see what would happen next.
The book is surely a captivating read with a perfect balance of emotions.
