What Do You See?

What do you see when you wake up?

Do you see the scars that show your will to survive?
Do you see your tangled hair like your tangled thoughts?

Do you see the lips, dry as  if  it’s parched for love?
The lines on your forehead like the complex paths you traveled for long...

Do you see your beautiful smile like a newly bloomed flower...?
Do you see the lashes like feathers for your eyes?

Do you see the navel, the depression   like the many mysteries of life?
Do you see the morning glow like the ray of  hope in a gloomy cave?

The dead skin like the struggle of your past...
Do you see the wrinkles, like the testimony of your experience?

For every feature of your body portrays something uniquely beautiful and apparent...In spite of the flaws and imperfections!

My Top 5 Favourite Novels!

It is a tough task for me to decide on my favourite 5 novels, especially when I am not so genre specific while selecting books. I usually pick whatever I think is going to make me think or retrospect or amaze me, or all at the same time! I also go by my friends feedbacks after all, reviews do matter, and also helps you to choose the better ones among the lot.

These are my favourite 5 Novels, there's nothing like the most favourite among them, I cherish and treasure them all.

1. The Kite Runner

Author - Khalid Hosseini
Khalid Hosseini has the most interesting way of storytelling and gives very beautiful details of everything as if it's actually happening. 'The Kite Runner’ is about loyalty, love, brotherhood, courage and humanity.

It’s a gripping story about two friends, Aamir and Hassan who love to fly kites, the former being the protagonist.  The story is based in Kabul, the capital of Afghanistan. The hardships and war-faced Afghanistan along with the political conflicts are depicted very intensively throughout.
Aamir hails from a wealthy family of Sunni Pashtun Community and Hassan from the Shia Hazaras community which were considered socially inferior group. In fact Hassan happens to be the servant in Aamir's family.

The story revolves around Hassan's loyalty and dedication towards his ‘Agha Sahib' Aamir, the cowardice of Aamir and his battle to set things straight and repay the sacrifices made my Hassan for him. It makes you hate the protagonist for the major part of the story and in the end leaves you with the feeling of hope. Narrating style is simple yet very effective. The novel has very interesting quotes which will stay intact in your mind for long.
“It may be unfair, but what happens in a few days, sometimes even a single day, can change the course of a whole lifetime...”
“And that's the thing about people who mean everything they say. They think everyone else does too.
“Better to get hurt by the truth than comforted with a lie.”

2. Tuesdays with Morrie

Author: Mitch Albom
Mitch Albom saw his old professor Morrie Schwartz on ABC's Nightline being interviewed by Ted Koppel about what it was like to be dying of ALS, (Lou Gherig's disease). This was when he decided to get in touch with his old dying Professor. Mitch was saddened to see his Professor in such a state. The next 16 Tuesday's they spend time exploring about relationships, family, aging, culture etc.
Mind you this novel is not just about the Professor's dying words/lessons. It is much more than that. Morrie will surprise you with his passion for life, his thought process.

This novel is extremely motivating and gives you altogether new outlook towards life!. It teaches you valuable lessons and comes from a person who has experienced it all!.
Here are some very inspirational quotes:
"In the beginning of life, when we are infants, we need others to survive, right? And at the end of life, when you get like me, you need others to survive right?... But here's the secret: in between, we need others as well"
“Detachment doesn’t mean you don’t let the experience penetrate you. On the contrary, you let it penetrate you fully. That’s how you are able to leave it.”

3. The (In)Eligible Bachelors

Author: Ruchita Misra
The tittle sounds like any other chick- lit but it is not. The novel is about  love, friendship, trust, family. Most important the novel doesn't look like it is written by a debutant.

Kasturi is a MBA graduate, 24 and single. Her mother wants her to get married to a well settled, rich, suitable guy. Her mother’s hunt for a son in law begins with Ads in the local newspaper, creates her profile on SHAADI.com and a hell lot of things.

Kasturi joins a company in Delhi, makes new friends, Ananya, a tomboy & Varun, a nerd. She continues to meet random guys in Delhi only because she cannot say ‘NO’ to her mother and gives up to her emotional blackmail each and every time. Among all, she meets a guy called Purva who is a doctor, a decent guy and a lot different from others. Although she never thinks about him that way, he lands up every now and then to help her in every difficult situation.

Story turns interesting when Kasturi falls madly in love with her boss Rajeev. Kasturi is dumb founded. She is unable to take the most important decision of her life. Will she make the correct decision?

4. Wise and Otherwise

Author: Sudha Murthy
This Novel is a collection of around 50 real life stories which the author herself experienced and expressed in the most aesthetic manner. The best thing about this novel is the stories are not preachy and not imposing any view and leaves it to the readers to decide between right and wrong.

A man  who leaves his father in an old age home, a student who returns the unused money are some of the stories which form the highlight of the novel. What is striking is her simplicity and humility which is visible in her writing.

Sudha Murthy writes her books as and when she travels and no wonder you see her stories cover different geographical regions. One can relate to these stories very easily. This book is a must read for those who want know about “real" India through her eyes.

5. The Fault in our Stars

Author: John Green
This is the best piece of fiction I have ever come across. The 2 main characters in the novel  Hazel Lancaster and, Augustus Waters.  Hazel is stricken with the most dreadful disease of all 'Cancer'. She meets Augustus who is a cancer survivor and her life changes completely. Augustus makes her feel happy, gives her hope and tries to fulfill all her wishes. Needless to say they fall in love with each other. Well love is not only emotion in this story, it is full of courage, excitement, friendship, pain, humor and anger.

The characters are remarkable and lively, as if you can draw their picture in your mind. Augustus, tall, handsome with blue eyes, fearless, confident and funny. The idea of having an unlit cigarette is enthralling.
"It's a metaphor, see:  you put the killing thing right between          your teeth, but you don't give it the power to do its killing".
Hazel, who in the  initial part of the story doesn't want to get attached to someone because of her health condition, compassionate, thoughtful, loves to read books and her favourite one "An Imperial Affliction" by Peter Van Houten. It's her dying wish to meet her favourite writer.
This novel will make your heart ache and there's a possibility you will have teary eyes and feel lump in your throat.

The one who stayed ...the one who decided to leave..

The missed call friends...
The online friends, the offline friends..
The conditional friends, the unconditional friends...
Book friends....
Tea friends...
The local train friends...
The office friends...
The funny friends.. the oh so serious friends..
The chatterbox friends, the introvert friends...
The "I was busy" friends..
The family friends..
The whining friends..
The ever smiling friends..

The friends who I'd love to meet again..

That Night on the Beach..

Remember that night on the beach...
The breeze that covered your face..
The way you tucked the stray strand of hair behind your ear..

That long stroll along the corner, water kissing our feet...
That whisper, that frequent long pause in between..
The splashing waves, soothing and serene...
The moonlight, looked like a reflection of your heart...
The stars twinkled our love...

The wine glasses we clinked...
The toasts we raised...
"May the best of our yesterdays be the worst of our tomorrows."

Initials we etched on the sand with a heart and arrow
Footprints on the wet sand...
The waves washed it away soon...
Making us realize that everything is temporary...

The glances we shared..
Our eyes longed to behold...
Just as the sand slips through our clenched fist..
Time was slipping away...
Wished to freeze it and make it last forever...

We'll See!

How often do we jump on what the outcome looks like? How often we feel something is good or bad for us without giving a second thought. We have a habit of drawing inference but fail to gather some patience and look upon it as it comes, you know, a bit like taking it one step at a time.
Before actually experiencing it we make notions about it. Come what may we judge, we judge as soon as we are put into a situation other than usual.

Why can’t we say "We'll See"?

Here's a story which can be fruitful to remember:

A farmer had only one horse. One day, his horse ran away.
His neighbors said, “I'm so sorry. You must be sad!.”
The farmer just said, “We'll see.”
A few days later, his horse came back.
His neighbors said, “Congratulations! This is great. You must be happy!”
The farmer just said, “We'll see.”

Later, the farmer's young boy went out riding on the horse and fell and broke his leg. His neighbors said, “I'm so sorry. This is really bad. You must be so upset.”
The Farmer just said, “We'll see.”

The country went to war, and every able-bodied young man was drafted as new recruits. The war was terrible and killed every young man, but the farmer's son was not selected, since he had a broken leg.

Moral of the story?

We often are too eager to judge an outcome as good or bad, even though it comes out to be totally different with time. Initially it may appear to be bad but may lead to something good!!

Being alone not lonely!!

So many expectations to bear..
So much to do, hell lot of  pressure to deal with
Over and over again,
Deadlines, dreams at stake..
You reach a certain point where you need a break..
Solitude is all you need...
Being alone - is - not - being  - lonely!!

How often do you unplug??
Unplug from the everyday hullabaloo..
When was the last time that you took time out only for you?
And did something just for yourself.
With your perspective that doesn't involve anyone else?

The question is how to be alone?
Start Simple..
Take yourself for dinner..
A hobby will find you peace and salvation..
A coffee shop a library a movie..
Then there is transportation to see a lot of places...
A prayer or meditation...
Being alone doesn't have a negative connotation!!

Being alone tells you who you really are..
It will energize you and bring you back refreshed..
It’s only the idea of being alone scares a lot of people...
Experience it ..
Embrace it!..
Because if you are happy in your head ..
Then solitude is blessed and alone is okay!

STOP Judging!

This is something I have been closely observing for quite long. Wherever you go, you will find some people who judge you without knowing anything atbout you. They judge you for everything and anything you do even if it’s not of their concern. Let’s face it, everybody judges someone or the other. But the kind of assumptions few of them make is gross.

These people will go down to any level to demoralize you.  Rumors about you are taken very seriously.  Each step you take is judged.

Girls being judged by the clothes they wear or the level of friendliness they have with the opposite sex. "Hey look she seems overfriendly with guys!”
Oh really? Who are you to judge?  Is there a scale to measure how friendly can a girl be with a guy?

If a guy doesn't spend much and prefers saving his money, "Look he is a miser"...If he spends a lot, "Look he is a spoilt brat!" Do you even know his side of story? Do you know him well to judge him?

Stop assuming things about people you meet. Try to find something positive in them rather than just pointing out mistakes and judging them without even understanding the situation. Be a little less obsessed about how others live their life and be a little more concerned about your life. Nobody is perfect, nobody has to be!. So before you judge try being in their shoes!

This quote is just about everything I want to convey,

"Don't judge someone just because they sin differently than you!"

A Soldier of Fortune

I have a lot of stories to tell you,
 The way I live here...
 All without you...
The stories of mountains and merciless cold..
 The stories that remain untold...

My voice echoes through the land...
I am eager to come back...
To be in your arms and hold your hand

As I lay back staring at the sky...
All I could think is of you and me...
 Here I am, alone...
I close my eyes and think of home....

'I Miss You' is something that will not suffice to express my feeling...
For the love we possess is fulfilling and healing...
I promise you, I will be there soon...

I so wish there were no guns, no bombs, and wars...
I see bloodshed..dead bodies...
So much agony that  leave a scar..
I am here to serve a purpose...
Refered as a protector of land..

I guess I will always be....

A SOLDIER OF FORTUNE

(This poem is inspired from the song 'Soldier of fortune' by Deep Purple)

You only need ONE!

Yes! You need only that one person whom you can share your feelings with!!.
Of course you have your parents, siblings each and every time, but there are some things in your life or in your mind which you cannot always share with your family, may be because you think your sorrow will affect them, or it will unnecessarily bother them. You always draw a line of what things you share with them for such reasons.

So... the first thing that crops our mind is whom do we choose for being that one person?

Let’s see... BFF? Girl/boyfriend etc.?.. Well. It totally depends on you.. I hear people saying 'you meet the best people in your school or college life'. If you ask me, I met some of the best people in my professional life too. That person is not someone you can choose based on gender, age, distance. or your relationship with him/her...It’s like 'OK, you are the one who has seen me at my best as well as at my worst or you are the one whom I can trust upon and I have spent enough time around you or I have felt that level of comfort with you which I've never felt with anyone before!'. There you are!! This is the ONE!!!

The only thing here important is "understanding". You will have plenty of people around giving you random advices, judging you... But this person will listen to you and understands you. Half of your problems will vanish if you have someone who listens to you and doesn't blatantly judge you for your actions.

This is someone you can really rely upon when you find yourself down and out. The reason I stress upon just ONE person is... it’s difficult to trust people with your life these days... I am trying not to sound pessimistic or  misanthrope... Actually, it takes a lot of time to finally realize that this is the one I was searching for. Some people can very easily betray you.  You can just put yourself in trouble if that person isn't worthy enough to share everything in your life.It kind of becomes risky, because that person knows your dark secrets too ;)

I wrote this post keeping in mind the person whom I consider my "ONE"... Finding that "ONE"   has truly changed a part of my life. If you already know your ‘ONE’, there's nothing more marvelous than that, if you don’t, I hope you figure out that someone pretty soon!!

LOVE

Love isn't perfect...
It's not a story book nor a fairy tale,
It’s not measurable as with a scale..
Love isn't about being cheesy...
Love doesn't come easy...

Love isn't about possession and belonging..
Love is about  longing...

Love is kind
Love is unconditional
Love is endless, it defies age..
Love is not something which can be trapped as in a cage..

Love is about selfless care..
Love is about the tiniest details which you like to share....

Love isn't a game...
Love is like a flower in the summer rain,
It sparkles bright...
Even though your day was bad...
Still it seems so right!

Love is about the way you express.
You just cannot expect someone to guess!..
Love is about actions not just words..
For it cannot be defined but simply felt!

No Goodbyes... Always by your side....

It’s heart breaking when you have to leave a place..
Especially when you spent so much time with someone.
It's only when we realize how much habitual we've become!!
So much we shared, so much we laughed, So much we cared...

Alas...
We have to part ways.. That’s Life they say.
Nothing remains the same they say..
Well .. I don’t agree with it..no way!

  I Believe...
Distance won’t matter in our case...
For the affection we embrace....

It has been truly amazing and it will always be...
We had the best time of our lives... didn't we?
I assure you ..Good bye is not 'THE END'
It means 'Take care.. till we meet again!'

A Conversation With A Taxi Driver

I was on my way to my office from CST. I took a taxi, usually I go for a shared taxi for which I have to stand in a long queue, but as I was getting late I took the
Meter one.

I could recognize from his attire that he was a Muslim. Specifically because he was wearing a round cap (Kufi, they call it). He was quite old, in his 50's I suppose. As soon as I entered the taxi, he asked me the time, I told him its 10 am. He said he was in a hurry, he had to reach by noon at Dongri for his daily namaz.

Just out of curiosity I asked "Do you offer Namaz daily?" He said "Yes, of course". "Infact I offer Namaz daily 5 times right from  5  in the morning to 11 at night". "Some people don't follow it 5 times a day" I said. "They don't understand Allah, He created the universe, of all the creatures, human being is the superior, and it’s only us who have all the comforts and are the luckiest ones. Some people don't realize this. They fail to thank Allah, Wo log "KAFIR"(disbeliever) hote hai. "But what if for some reason you miss to offer namaz?" I asked." There is prescribed time for each Namaz, even if I missed it at any point of time, I have to resume and complete it the next time, there are no excuses". "But why do you have to do it 5 times???" " Each Namaz is important, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness".

This conversation was quite interesting. Unfortunately I reached my destination and had to go...I so wished that this conversation could go on.. I have some things to take away from this conversation :

i) Feel blessed and know that you are in the comfort of God
ii) Prayer can make you  feel joy in the presence of all mighty
iii) While we know we are a creation of God, we must realize and remember that everyone else and everything else are also God's creation.
